I wanted to do
something with the kids this spring break so I thought going to the Ape caves would be a great idea...... well if you don't mind being
soaked then I guess it was. We arrived to about 46 degree temperatures. the caves felt about the same. I was a little
shocked that the water could make it's way through the
lava and drench us about the same as being outside standing in the rain.
We did the 3/4 mile
trail which was probably the better choice due to the weather. If you have never been inside a cave than you cannot really prepare yourself for the absolute
darkness that
encompasses you. You realize how much light the moon and
stars actually give when you get past a certain point in the
cave where light does not flow in.

Andrew and Jenna enjoyed being explorers!

We finally made it to the top to be greeted by
SNOW!!! We had a great time considering we were all wet, tired and cold.
